Summer In BarbadosPosted by PURE in News | August 26, 2011
In a country that experiences “Summer” weather all year long and breaks its seasons down into wet or dry, the months of July and August signals the arrival of the country’s most celebrated festival, Crop Over the local Barbadian Carnival. Crop Over initially began in the 1780s when the Caribbean was the world’s largest sugar producer.
While the sugar industry has fallen dramatically the festival continues to serve as a major boost to the economy as thousands of Barbadians living abroad and visitors arrive on the island every year to enjoy what was dubbed this year as “The Sweetest Summer Festival”.
Masqueraders, calypsonians, fetes, limes, cruises, shows there is party in excess. This year was especially “LOUD” as the international acclaimed Grammy Award winning hometown girl sensation Rihanna brought her concert to Barbados. It was exhilarating, riveting and unquestionably the best entertainment production the island has ever seen.
